What's the latest?
March 2026
Over the past several months, we have focused on the foundational steps required to bring the on-campus food pantry to life. Key developments include:
- Space planning and design: We completed initial assessments of the building and continue to work with campus partners to develop a design that supports both food access and community-building. This includes plans for a welcoming shopping area, storage infrastructure, and a flexible gathering space for workshops.
- Operational planning: The Basic Needs Program staff have begun developing operational procedures, volunteer pathways, and partnerships with food suppliers to ensure a reliable and dignified shopping experience once the pantry opens.
The next phase of the project will focus on construction and build‑out of the Columbia Alley space. As this work progresses, we will share opportunities for campus to help shape the pantry’s services.
While the new pantry is under development, students can continue accessing fresh, supplemental groceries through the ECM Student Food Pantry at 710 East 17th Avenue. The ECM Student Food Pantry remains open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. when classes are in session.
December 2025
- In alignment with UO's Oregon Rising goal to create a flourishing community, the Basic Needs Program is working to establish an on-campus food pantry. Over the past year, the Basic Needs Program secured funding for an on-campus food pantry, hired a student food pantry coordinator, and engaged with campus stakeholders to begin envisioning the future campus pantry.
- Our hope is the UO Student Food Pantry will be more than a place for students to shop for fresh, nutritious foods. It will be a space for gathering, conversation, and learning about basic needs services on and off campus. It will be a place where students can come to receive support and resources that empower them to thrive academically and personally.
- This month, we are excited to announce the location of the future UO Student Food Pantry: 1691 Columbia Alley!
- Over the next phase of this project, we look forward to re-imagining and designing this space in collaboration with campus.
