UPDATE: Federal Government Shutdown Ends, Oregon SNAP Back to Normal
(Posted November 14, 2025) Oregon SNAP is running normally again following the end of the federal government shutdown. SNAP benefits distributed on November 7, will remain on Oregon EBT cards, and can be used to purchase food as normal. December benefits are set to be sent out on the regular schedule.
As of November 13, people approved for SNAP on or after November 7, will now receive food benefits. Approved applicants should see benefits on their EBT cards by the morning of November 14.
Before going to the store, SNAP recipients are encouraged to check their EBT card balance to make sure their benefits are available. Use only the official EBT Edge website or the EBT Edge mobile app (Apple or Android). ODHS does not guarantee the safety of any other EBT management websites or apps.
To learn more about how to maximize SNAP benefits, you can find more information on the Basic Needs Program's SNAP website.
UPDATE: SNAP benefits have been loaded to users cards.
(Posted November 7, 2025) Following is the announcement from the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS):
"November SNAP benefits have been loaded onto EBT cards.
"The federal government remains shut down, but ODHS was able to issue full November SNAP benefits. People in Oregon who receive SNAP will see 100 percent of their November benefit amount beginning on November 7, 2025.
"Before going to the store, check your EBT card balance to make sure your benefits are available. Use only the official EBT Edge website or the EBT Edge mobile app (Apple or Android). ODHS does not guarantee the safety of any other EBT management websites or apps."
(Posted October 28, 2025) If the federal government shutdown continues into November, people who receive SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits in Oregon will not receive their benefits until federal funding resumes.
The Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) nutrition program will not be affected by the government shutdown in November. Families receiving WIC can continue to use their benefits as usual.
We understand that this news may cause concern, as food is an essential basic need and any delays are stressful. The Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) is working hard to keep people informed and will share updates on its website as more information is available.
If the shutdown ends prior to November 1, ODHS will work to distribute benefits as close to the normal schedule as possible. If it is after November 1, benefits will be issued as quickly as possible, though delays could occur due to the volume of benefits needing to be issued at one time.
We know this may be a challenging time, and there are many resources available to help you stay nourished and supported. The Basic Needs Program is available to meet with students looking for support. Complete the Basic Needs Assistance Form to request support.
During this time, the Basic Needs Program will also be purchasing additional non-perishable and select dairy items for the ECM Student Food Pantry, which students can access for free to pick up a supplemental supply of essential groceries. The pantry is open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at 710 East 17th Avenue. Free parking is available and no application is required. Students need to bring their ID and a shopping bag.
If you are interested in helping UO students maintain their food security, you can do so by supporting the Student Food Pantry and Ducks Feeding Ducks. Donations help keep our shelves stocked and provide funding to students who do not have the money or meal points available to purchase an on-campus meal.
